CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - The investigation into the murder of a young woman in Chicopee continues after her body was found Tuesday morning at a home on West Street. Officials report this was not a random act of violence, but an act of domestic violence, and it comes on the heels of other violent incidents in Chicopee. The local community is reacting to what is being called a "horrific crime scene" by Chicopee Town officials. “I wouldn’t expect [this] so close to where I stay, but I don’t know — it’s just crazy,” said Josh, a resident of East Longmeadow. A 21-year-old woman was found dead Tuesday morning after police responded to a disturbance at a home on West Street. A 28-year-old man was also found at the scene with a neck laceration. He is now in police custody. Chicopee Mayor John Vieau confirmed the incident was an act of domestic violence, and police are not seeking any additional suspects. The Hampden County District Attorney's Office is leading the investigation. “This news, while reassuring, does not take away from our sadness about this senseless act of violence,” said Mayor Vieau. “We lament the scourge of domestic violence in our nation, and we send our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of the victim.” This incident happened within days of two unrelated shootings here in Chicopee. This past weekend, police were called to a shooting on Center Street that left two people injured. Both victims are expected to recover from their wounds. Last Wednesday, a 9-1-1 caller reported shots fired in the area of Chicopee Street near the Dry Bridge. There, officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. Still no word on any arrests. However---Chicopee Police Spokesperson Travis Odiorne confirmed with 22News that all of these incidents are unrelated to each other, and there's no threat to the public at this time. All incidents are still being investigated at this time, and we will provide the latest details once they become available.
