WEST GREENWICH, R.I. (WLNE) — The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management identified the suspect arrested for illegal hunting activity that killed a deer during the weekend of Nov. 16 and Nov. 17. Li Haiming, 28, allegedly set illegal animal traps on private property off of Potter Road. According to RIDEM, one trap caught a deer, which died, as well as trapped a a West Greenwich resident’s dog. Haiming is facing 13 misdemeanor charges, including hunting without a license. Officers also confiscated over $2,000 worth of hunting equipment. RIDEM said hunting licenses and permit fees are vital for funding wildlife restoration efforts and that poaching depletes the state’s natural resources. Haiming is due in court next week.
