Union Center, S.D. (KELO) -- If Governor Kristi Noem becomes the nation's next Secretary of Homeland Security, Lieutenant Governor Larry Rhoden is next in line to be the Governor of South Dakota.  It's now been two weeks since President-elect Donald Trump made the announcement, and South Dakotans are still waiting to hear from Rhoden.  Union Center locals are looking forward to the potential of seeing a familiar face from their small town in office. "It's actually very exciting to have Larry enter the Governorship from a little town as small as Union Center. He represents a lot of that agriculture and ranching people in this area." Union Center resident Cheryl Hammerstrom said. Rhoden's twin sister believes that he has the right qualities to represent the state of South Dakota. "He has a lot of integrity, he has a lot of common sense, and I think that's what's helped him out a lot and he has very good work ethics. And I think the combination has really helped him," sister of Rhoden, Lorie Hausmann said. Rhoden can commonly be seen helping those in his community with local projects. "Years ago I worked with Larry and Sandy on the construction of the community center, the Central Meade County Community Center and Union Center. And they were good to work with." Hammerstrom Said Rhoden is known as a rancher and for his support for agriculture in the state. "Union Center wouldn't thrive if it wasn't for agriculture. That's what our state is based on and I also think that it really helps to go down to Pierre and be able to govern when you've been from the state and you know how the state works, you know how the people think." Hausmann Said We’ll keep you updated on the positions of Governor Noem and Rhoden as they give their official statements.
