Salvation Army preps for annual holiday meal delivery from Hawaii to Guam

HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Thanksgiving is an especially busy time for the Salvation Army Hawaiian & Pacific Islands Division, as they prepare to serve free meals to communities throughout Hawaii and Guam.

With the help of donors and volunteers, thousands of meals were prepared for deliveries beginning as early as Wednesday, Nov. 27 at The Salvation Army's annual 1,000 Blessings Community Thanksgiving Meal Event.
The sit-down lunch program will serve about 300 meals from noon to 2 p.m. at Kroc Center in Ewa Beach on a first come first serve basis. About 700 meals will also be distributed across West Oahu.

“We are so grateful for the many wonderful supporters in the community who are giving of their time and resources to offer sustenance, hope, and aloha to others who might otherwise go without," Major Troy Trimmer, Divisional Commander for The Salvation Army Hawaiian & Pacific Islands said.
Below is a list of events happening on other islands:
Nov. 27 (Thanksgiving Eve)
Maui
The Salvation Army Kahului Corps partnered with UH Maui College to serve 600 meals prepared by the UH Maui College Culinary Arts Program. The free event will be held in the Paina Building at the school's main campus from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Kauai
Head to The Salvation Army Hanapepe Corps community center for dine-in and take-away meals from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The Lihue Corps will serve around 600 meals by drive-thu grab-n-go and walk-up grab-n-go at The Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Thanksgiving Day
Hawaii Island
Kona Corps, Papa Kona's, Cal Kona and Jackie Rey will host a Thanksgiving grab-n-go meal at Jackie Rey's Kailua Kona location. Meals will be served on a first come first serve basis starting at 10:30 a.m. Five hundred other meals will be served to kupuna in the community.
Hilo residents can head to Aunty Sally's to participate in the Hilo Temple Corps sit-down Thanksgiving meal event beginning at 11 a.m.
Six hundred boxed Thanksgiving meals will also be delivered by The Salvation Army Honokaa Corps.
Oahu
The Salvation Army Kauluwela Corps will join Mayor Blangiardi at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall to distribute meals to more than 1,500 people. Guests can also enjoy live entertainment with doors opening at 11 a.m. Lunch service will follow from noon to 1 p.m.
Guam
About 1,000 meals will head to Chamorro Village from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on a first come first serve basis.
"Together, we can create brighter Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations, and positively impact thousands of lives all year long," Major Trimmer added.
