CHARLOTTE, NC — Thanksgiving’s a day of family, fun and of course the food but the cost of putting that food on the table is tough to swallow. The good news is,  it’s going to cost about $3.00 less this year to feed a family of ten according to the American Farm Bureau Federation. Ricky Volpe is an agricultural business professor at Cal Poly. He tells WCCB Charlotte that more people are cooking from scratch and also buying store brand foods to save money this holiday season. “They have come a long way. Many of them are actually produced by the retailers from whom you buy them. They’re creative, they’re fun and they will they will save you money. Honestly, you might not even notice the difference. So that’s another thing I always stress when I’m talking about just maybe trying to save a few bucks on the margins,” said Volpe. Volpe also says because Thanksgiving is so late this year, shoppers can expect to see grocery stores attempting to push Thanksgiving food all the way through Christmas. That means more deals and displays at the store for foods like mashed potatoes, gravy and stuffing.
