MCSO sheriff responds to allegations brought by former employees

CHARLOTTE, NC — Mecklenburg County’s sheriff is responding to allegations against him from former employees.
For weeks we have been telling you about accusations from former members of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office against Sheriff Garry McFadden.
It all started at the beginning of the month when former MCSO chief deputy Kevin Canty.
Multiple MCSO employees tell WCCB the sheriff was hostile, racist, and ran the sheriff’s office like a “third world country”.
WCCB Charlotte’s Gary Brode asked McFadden about the allegations on Tuesday night at a turkey giveaway event put on by MCSO.
“Let me say this. We have talked about this enough,” continue McFadden, “we have made all the comments we want to make. We put this behind us and we moved on.”
After the sheriff was asked questions about the charity event he was a part of, McFadden then finished the interview by saying he was disappointed in the media for its coverage of the allegations.
“I wish the media gives us equal time about the things that means a lot to the community. I mean, the post release center, the rise program, a lot of things. But we want to beat the same issues into the ground, but we will not beat the good things into the ground and that’s what we are so disappointed in. Fair, balanced reporting, that’s all we always ask for. Fair, balanced reporting,” McFadden said.
WCCB has made multiple requests to Sheriff McFadden for an interview or comment. He declined those requests.
