CHARLOTTE, NC – A 53 year old woman accused of killing a 25 year old girl is due in court next week. Stephanie Alexander is facing second degree murder for the death of 25 year old Tyra Crosby. For Tonya Hoskins, Crosby’s mother holiday season is a bitter reminder of loss. “I get sadder and sadder just knowing that, you know, I won’t be able to partake another Thanksgiving with her or another Christmas,” Hoskins said. Crosby was shot and killed inside a home on Porter Street on July 18th, 2023 around 5am. “She killed my baby in cold blood. She killed her at 4 a.m. and she was out at 8 p.m., meaning that human life have no value,” Hoskins said. Investigators say 53 year old Stephanie Alexander called 911 saying she killed Crosby. “I came home and I had seen a woman inside my house and I pulled out my gun and shot and she’s not moving,” Alexander said in the 911 call on July 18th. Alexander is now facing second degree murder charges with a trial set to start December 5th. Her charges were elevated to murder after Crosby turned over a recording of what she says were her daughters last moments. “The hardest part is to look at him and her. It’s to actually see the murderer walk into a courtroom where you’re able to be free,” Hoskins said. Hoskins says surveillance video shows Crosby in an Arcade on North Tryon street with Alexander’s husband hours before her death. Hoskins believes her daughter was lured to the home on Porter Street. “I think that Tyra was very innocent in this situation,” Hoskins said. “The GPS on her phone on her car states that she had only been to the residence one time.” Hoskins hopes justice is on the way but she’s worried Alexander’s clean criminal record could mean a lighter punishment. “I don’t feel that justice will be served. I know that if she’s in her right mind, she’ll take a plea. That plea may not give her much time,” Hoskins said. Alexander’s trial is set to start at 9am on December 5th. WCCB reached out to the district attorney’s office to see if there has been a plea offered in the case, but a spokesperson says it’s against ethics rules to discuss open cases.
