Fritts resigned a day after Hayfield announced it would be withdrawing its football team from the rest of the postseason amid recent controversy surrounding the team and its recruiting practices.
Hayfield Secondary School withdraws from postseason amid recruiting allegations
The Virginia High School League (VHSL) imposed a two-year postseason ban on the team nearly a month ago, which a judge later blocked.
The VHSL's alleged violations involved first-year head coach Darryl Overton, who had several recruits follow him to Hayfield after his successful stint with Freedom-Woodbridge.
In an interview with DC News Now, Overton said he was not happy with the decision to have the team resign.
An investigation into the team and its recruiting practices is ongoing, including a review of FCPS' student-athlete transfer and eligibility practices across all sports and high schools in the division, according to FCPS Superintendent Michelle Reid.
