ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – Local owner of VIP Maintenance Inc. DBA College Bound Sealers has pleaded guilty to filing a false tax return.
Officials say 53-year-old Anthony Carnevale owned the paving and sealing business and failed to report over $3 million in tax revenue with the IRS between 2017 and 2021.
The money that Carnevale failed to report was from customer checks cashed. Out of this money, Carnevale paid $63,564 in fees to a check cashing business with $62391 paid in business expenses.
Carnevale used the remaining money to pay VIP Maintenance Inc.'s employees some of their wages in cash totaling over $2.1 million. The remaining $731,120 was kept by Carnevale, according to prosecutors.
The plea is a result of an investigation by the IRS. Carnevale's charge faces a maximum penalty of three years in prison, and a fine of $250,000. Sentencing is scheduled for March 18, 2025 at 2 p.m.
