(KRON) -- The Rohnert Park Police Department (RPPD) reported an arrest of a suspect who reversed his car and struck a public safety officer with his open door, leading police on a pursuit. Animal rights extremist arrested in connection to Bay Area bombings after 20 years on the run RPPD said the case began Monday at 9:39 p.m. when public safety officers spotted a driver in a vehicle behind 200 Classic Court. Police said they learned the driver, identified as Alex Reed, was currently on probation in Sonoma County and was showing "signs and symptoms of being under the influence of a narcotic." Police said when they tried to get Reed to exit his car, he instead put it in reverse and hit one of the officers with his open door. He then fled the scene. RPPD said the California Highway Patrol assisted with the pursuit when the suspect entered Highway 101. The driver made his way to the Santa Rosa Police Department's jurisdiction where police were able to arrest him. Rohnert police said the officer was treated at a nearby hospital and released. RPPD confirmed Alex Reed was booked into jail for the following charges of fail to yield, assault with a deadly weapon, and violation of probation.
