(KRON) -- The Vallejo Police Department is investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred Monday afternoon. According to VPD, officers responded at around 4:46 p.m. to a report of a multi-vehicle crash at the intersection of Ascot Parkway and Sterling Street.
Police said a preliminary investigation indicated that a gray 2004 Toyota Solara was headed north on Ascot Parkway when it crashed into a white 2009 Chevy Traverse headed the opposite direction. The crash sent the Traverse into a blue 1992 Nissan Sentra that was also headed south.

All three vehicles came to rest at the intersection, police said, and all involved parties remained at the scene. The Toyota's driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital.
A passenger in the Toyota was also taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead by medical staff. The deceased's identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, police said.
Two occupants of the Chevy Traverse suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The driver and a juvenile passenger were transported to local hospitals for medical evaluation and treatment.
Three occupants of the Nissan Sentra declined medical treatment and were released from the scene, police said. Vallejo PD said it is investigating the cause and contributing factors in the crash, but that alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been a factor.
