Woman found dead after domestic violence incident on West Street in Chicopee

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - A 21-year-old woman was found dead early Tuesday morning in what officials describe as a domestic violence incident after police were called to a disturbance on West Street in Chicopee.
Chicopee city councilor responds to death threats, urges civility
A 911 call was received reporting a disturbance in the area of the 0-100 block of West Street. When officers arrived they found a man in a bedroom suffering from a neck laceration. The Chicopee Mayor described the incident as a "horrific crime scene."
The man, identified as a 28-year-old, was brought to Baystate Medical Center. His condition has not been released.
The Hampden District Attorney's Office says that during a sweep of the home, officers found the body of a 21-year-old woman with "conclusive signs of death." Police believe the incident was not random, and there is no threat to the public.
Chicopee Mayor John L. Vieau confirmed the death was the result of domestic violence, stating, “This was not a random act of violence, and police are not seeking additional suspects at this time.” He extended condolences to the victim’s family and lamented the prevalence of domestic violence, calling the situation a "senseless act of violence."
Mayor Vieau also praised the professionalism of first responders, saying, “Our police officers and firefighters conducted themselves with the utmost professionalism when faced with the most difficult of circumstances.”

A portion of West Street in Chicopee was closed as police investigated the incident overnight.
The Chicopee Police Department states that this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public. The investigation is being conducted by the Hampden District Attorney’s Office State Police Detective Unit in conjunction with the Chicopee Police Department.
