SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - State representative Bud Williams, the Urban League of Springfield, Rachel's Table, and other local organizations partnered together to give out food for Thanksgiving. Tuesday-- local leaders were able to give out more than 150 turkeys to families in need. With food prices rising across the Commonwealth, these local leaders came together to ensure that those in the community have food on their table for the holiday. State Rep. Bud Williams says people were lining up by 9:30 in the morning. "Just trying to bless a few people in this time of giving," says Williams. "From our community, we think it is better to give than receive to put a smile on people's faces." The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts reports that more than 61,000 people are experiencing food insecurity in Hampden County. This event helped to make sure that families could have a nice warm meal for Thanksgiving.
