Amherst town manager appoints new fire chief

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP)-- Interim Amherst Fire Chief Lindsay Stromgren has been appointed chief by Town Manager Paul Bockelman.
Stromgren began his career with the Amherst Fire Department 42 years ago as a student firefighter, moving through the ranks from professional firefighter/EMT, captain, to assistant chief. He has been serving as interim chief since the retirement of former chief Tim Nelson in June.

Stromgren attended Amherst-Pelham Regional High School and has been active in the community as a member of several organizations. He is a graduate of Greenfield Community College, UMass Amherst, received Executive Fire Officer (EFO) Certification from the National Fire Academy, and is a Massachusetts Credentialed Fire Chief through a program at the Massachusetts Fire Academy.

The appointment will be reviewed and considered by the Town Council at its meeting on Monday, December 2nd.
