ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – PNM is warning the public on potential scams as during the holiday season. PNM says they typically see an increase in reports of calls and texts from fake utility representatives. Trending: Albuquerque department sheds light on object attached to some parking meters The scammers typically pose as PNM representatives and claim the customer is behind on payments and threatens to disconnect electricity unless immediate payment is made with a prepaid gift card or electronic banking transfer. PNM says there have been over 446 scam reports since January 2024. Anyone who suspects they are being targeted by scammers is urged to hang up the phone and report the suspicious activity to PNM as soon as possible. Anyone who questions whether a call, text or email is legitimate can contact PNM directly at 1-888-342-5766.
