Mikaela Shiffrin notches 99th World Cup win in AustriaSkiing GOAT Mikaela Shiffrin notched her 99th World Cup win Saturday in Gurgl, Austria. Shiffrin won the slalom event, her 62nd Cup victory in that discipline. Shiffrin’s teammate Paula Moltzan finished sixth in the event. Skiers braved freezing temperatures and dimming light during the competition. “The second run was a big mental challenge because I was not sure how it would feel with the surface and it was getting darker,” Shiffrin said. “Sometimes, when I am not sure about the feeling under my feet, I take too much time for the turn, so I tried to push anyway, and it was great.” Shiffrin, Moltzan and the rest of the skiers will be in Killington, Vermont, this weekend for the giant slalom and slalom events at the Killington Cup, where Shiffrin will be going for her 100th win. “It’s not impossible, but so many things have to go right. From the outside, it looks like it is supposed to happen this way, but it’s certainly not easy — I am not taking that for granted, and I hope to have a good performance in front of the home crowd,” added Shiffrin.
