Parkite Casey Dawson posting strong results to open speed skating season

Parkite Casey Dawson has hit the ground running in this year’s speed skating season. Dawson, whose first event was the Four Continents Championships in Hachinohe City, Japan, earlier this month, has finished top-10 in every event he’s entered. Dawson and his team pursuit teammates finished second Saturday in the first World Cup’s race in Nagano, Japan. Dawson’s team pursuit teammates are Ethan Cepuran and Emery Lehman. The trio set the world record in the event this past January.Dawson is looking to climb the ranks of the World Cup standings this year. The 24 year old finished last season ranked atop the world in team pursuit, 9th in long distances and 40th in the 1,500m. Dawson is also adding the 5,000m to his plate this season. He finished eighth in the event Friday at the Nagano World Cup. Dawson raced in division A in both the team pursuit and 5,000m events, and in B for the 1,500m, where he also finished in eighth. At the Four Continents earlier this month, Dawson finished fifth in the 5,000m. Park City’s own will be lacing up his skates again this weekend for the Beijing World Cup, running Friday through Sunday. Dawson and Lehman took home bronze at the 2022 Beijing Games.The third World Cup of the season doesn’t come until late January in Calgary. The U.S. late-January World Cup was recently moved, with the Four Continents, from the Olympic Oval in Kearns to Milwaukee. There are six World Cups and the World Speed Skating Single Distances Championships in March in Norway on the docket this year. Dawson and his teammates are building toward another Olympic run in Milan next winter.
