LAKEVILLE, Mass. (WLNE) — A former Lakeville police officer, now a Massachusetts State Trooper, received the Medal of Valor at the Trooper George L. Hanna Memorial Awards for Bravery in Boston Tuesday.
Former Lakeville Police Officer Dakota J. Jones was monitoring traffic at the Precinct and Pickens Streets intersection on September 29, 2023 when he was approached by a man brandishing a possible black handgun, according to the Lakeville Police Department.

Jones and Nee both fired at the subject striking him and then administering emergency medical aid.
The subject recovered from his injuries and was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and threatening to commit a crime.
According to body cam footage, Officer Jones ordered the subject to drop his weapon 11 times.
