Patchy fog early Wednesday, showers Thanksgiving Day ahead of strong cold front
Nov 26, 2024
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Patchy fog is expected to develop overnight, leading to reduced visibility for early Wednesday morning travelers. Visibility may drop to around three miles in some areas, so caution is advised during the morning commute.
Morning lows will be near 60 degrees, with temperatures rising to the mid-70s by the afternoon. Humidity will be noticeable, and skies will be partly sunny.
As Thanksgiving approaches, a cold front will bring a higher chance of rain on Thursday. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely, with a 30% to 50% chance across the area.
While most storms will be mild, a few could produce gusty winds up to 50 mph and occasional lightning. Rainfall amounts should remain under one inch, and flooding is not expected.
After the front passes, colder and drier air will settle in. Friday and the weekend will feature sunny skies and much cooler temperatures.
Morning lows could dip into the 30s on Saturday, with some areas in southern Mississippi potentially falling below freezing. Highs during the day will reach the upper 50s to mid-60s.
Travelers and holiday planners should prepare for chilly mornings and bundle up for outdoor activities later this week.
