According to AAA, the vast majority of Kentuckians who’ll be traveling over the Thanksgiving holiday period will do so by automobile. However, in Lexington, thousands are flying to their destinations, according to Lauren Simmerman, community relations manager for Blue Grass Airport. She said many of their customers began holiday travels last week. “Thursday and Friday of last week, November, 21 and 22nd were our two busiest days leading up to Thanksgiving, just under 3,000 passengers each of those days.” Simmerman said Blue Grass Airport’s next busiest day of the year is the Tuesday before Thanksgiving – and people flying this week may need to budget a little extra time, according to the Transportation Security Administration. “TSA is definitely predicting record breaking Thanksgiving travel. They’ve been super upfront about that, and our numbers certainly hold true to that here, personally, at Blue Grass Airport as well. You know, I think delays, they’re always possible, right?” Simmerman said weather can be a factor, too.
