LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Travelers are packing the Blue Grass Airport Tuesday, with officials predicting this to be one of the busiest travel days for Thanksgiving. Lauren Simmerman with the airport said they expect around 2,500 passengers to pass through Tuesday. “I’m sure a lot of passengers have seen that TSA is predicting a record-breaking Thanksgiving travel season,” Simmerman said, “we’ve certainly seen some large numbers coming through, so it holds true,” she said. Many passengers are flying out early in hopes of avoiding potential delays. “That’s why we’re going today,” said traveler John Paul Miller. “Get out early and hopefully have no complications through Atlanta and get down to Florida safe,” said Miller. Weather concerns are adding another layer of complexity to an already busy travel season. “I’m probably going to get stuck in St. Louis or Kansas City,” said Rodney Moran. “You just have to be prepared and try not to get upset because it’s not going to accomplish anything,” said Moran. Despite the challenges, many travelers are staying positive and focusing on gratitude for the season. “There’s going to be a lot worse things than this,” said Moran, “at the end of the day, I’m thankful for where I’m at,” he said. “We’re grateful for a lot of family that we’re going to visit with. Just praise God and have a great weekend,” said Miller. Airport officials remind travelers to arrive early and anticipate longer wait times due to holiday crowds.
