INDIANAPOLIS — Court records released on Tuesday detail the chaotic moments that led to a shooting at a strip club on the east side of Indianapolis.
According to an affidavit for probable cause, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to 4011 Southeastern Avenue — Brad's Brass Flamingo — around 3:18 a.m. on Sunday. When police arrived at the scene, they found a victim suffering from gunshot wounds to the left bicep and hip.
The victim was transported from the scene to IU Health Methodist in serious but stable condition. After Carroll was transported, officers continued their investigation of the shooting.
Police reviewed security camera footage and spoke to several witnesses during their investigation, and they ultimately deduced that the shooting was the result of a dispute over missing money.
Court records indicate that the dispute flooded out of the strip club and into its parking lot. When the fight moved to the parking lot, the suspect — later identified as 28-year-old Dominick Collins — allegedly retrieved a handgun from a vehicle.
Security guards saw Collins grab the gun and confiscate it. As the fight continued in the parking lot, however, one security guard was hit in the head by an unknown person using an unknown object.
Collins then snatched a 9mm handgun from the holster of a security team member who was trying to assist the guard who had been hit in the head. Collins then used that gun to shoot the victim.
According to court documents, security camera video caught Collins firing two shots at the victim before fleeing the scene in a black sedan.
Police presented photo arrays to several witnesses after the shooting. Once they viewed the arrays, multiple witnesses identified Collins as the shooter.
According to Indiana's public court reporting system, Collins has been preliminarily charged with battery by means of a deadly of weapon and theft involving a firearm.
Both charges Collins faces are Level 5 Felonies. The maximum penalty for a Level 5 Felony in Indiana is a six-year prison sentence and a fine of up to $10,000.
Previous reporting indicates Sunday's shooting is the second at Brad's Brass Flamingo this year. There have been three shootings at the strip club in the last 12 months.
