ZIONSVILLE, Ind. -- Zionsville will soon see some investment in its South Village area. According to a news release from the town of Zionsville, the town was awarded $4 million through Indiana's READI 2.0 program to fund improvements to help address traffic and safety challenges in the South Village area. The release said that the investment will fund the construction of two new roundabouts and road connections at 1st Street/Sycamore Street and at Main Street/Sycamore Street. The investment will also fund a new pedestrian path along Sycamore Street from 1st Street to Lions Park. The release said READI 2.0 funding helps "accelerate transformative projects that improve quality of life, attract talent and spur economic development." The region that this project is located in promotes walkable communities, innovation hubs and recreational districts that attract talent and foster economic growth. Indiana sees first flu death of the 2024-25 season "Our traffic grid dates back over 150 years, designed for railroads, not modern vehicles,” Zionsville Mayor John Stehr said in the release. “This funding modernizes our infrastructure, supports responsible growth in the South Village, and makes Main Street businesses more accessible.” Officials said the project will serve as a direct connection between Zionsville Road and Main Street and could begin construction starting next year. Engineers are finalizing the project's details, including utility relocations and upgraded pedestrian crossings. "The Zionsville Chamber supports policies that promote regional partnerships and innovative funding strategies, such as the READI 2.0 program, to maximize resources and drive economic growth," Chamber Executive Director Mike Hanlon said in the release. "Improving traffic flow, pedestrian safety and connectivity will strengthen our economy and enhance the vibrancy within our community that attracts and retains talent. We look forward to working with Mayor Stehr and the local business community here in Zionsville to bring this project to life."
