The University of Hawai‘i football team will close out the 2024 season with a Mountain West clash against New Mexico on Saturday at Clarence T.C. Ching Complex. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m., with the game broadcast on Spectrum Sports pay-per-view and ESPN Honolulu radio. The Rainbow Warriors (4-7, 2-4 MW) will honor 23 seniors in a postgame Senior Night ceremony, a longstanding tradition for the program. The Lobos (5-6, 4-3 MW) will arrive in Honolulu looking to secure bowl eligibility with a victory. Hawai‘i quarterback Brayden Schager, who holds the school record with 33 consecutive starts, may not play on Saturday as he recovers from a knee injury suffered two weeks ago at Utah State. If he is unavailable, true freshman Micah Alejado is expected to start, becoming the first UH freshman quarterback to do so since Schager in 2021 against Fresno State. Among the seniors being recognized are six-year players WR Spencer Curtis, LB Nalu Emerson, and WR Jonah Panoke, as well as seven-year players LB Logan Taylor and DL Elijah Robinson. Emerson and Panoke have spent all six seasons with the program in Mānoa. Four of those six victories were decided by one score, including the last three: a 50-45 win over Colorado State in 2021, a 31-25 win over UNLV in 2022, and a 27-24 win over Colorado State in 2023. The Rainbow Warriors are coming off a tough 55-10 loss at Utah State two weeks ago, where they struggled with five interceptions and seven sacks. Meanwhile, the Lobos remain in postseason contention after a stunning 38-35 upset of No. 18 Washington State in Albuquerque two weeks ago. New Mexico is chasing its first bowl appearance since 2016. For the second straight season, UH has the opportunity to play spoiler in the regular-season finale. Last year, the Rainbow Warriors ended Colorado State’s bowl hopes with a 27-24 walk-off victory in Honolulu. Stay tuned to Spectrum Sports and ESPN Honolulu for full game-day coverage.
