EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - In observance of World AIDS Day, the Border AIDS Partnership (BAP) will host its 17th annual Spotlight Silent Art Auctions the first week of December. The juried fine art competition and junction will take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the El Paso Community Foundation Room, 333 N. Oregon St., BAP said in a news release. BAP said this year's event, which features the theme "Positive Voices," will showcase original artwork from renowned local artists. All bidding will be conducted online. Tickets to attend are $20 and can be purchased here. “Our silent art auction is a dynamic way for local artists and the community to come together and support critical resources for individuals battling HIV/AIDS in El Paso, Ciudad Juárez, and Las Cruces,” Floyd Johnson, BAP board member and event committee chairman said. “In previous years, attendees have bid on stunning pieces from artists like Gaspar Enríquez, Suzi Davidoff, and Patrick Gabaldón. This year promises to be just as exciting with contributions from both celebrated and emerging artists.” “Honoring those we’ve lost, particularly around World AIDS Day, is an integral part of our mission. This event gives us the privilege of uniting our vibrant border community through art and advocacy," Edgar Picazo, BAP treasurer added. BAP was established in 1994 through a collaboration between the El Paso Community Foundation and the US/Mexico Border Health Association to combat the challenges posed by HIV/AIDS in the region, according to the news release. "Since becoming an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit, BAP has provided over $2.5 million in funding for innovative HIV prevention and education programs across El Paso, Southern New Mexico, and Ciudad Juárez," read the news release. In addition, BAP grantees have included impactful organizations such as Centro Caritativo Para Atención de Enfermos de Sida, UMC’s Teen Advisory Board, Programa Compañeros, HIVida, Las Americas Immigrant Advocacy Center, among others.
