MATTHEWS, NC – A driver hit and killed a person along the I-485 outer loop in Matthews Tuesday afternoon. The Matthews Police Department says a portion of the interstate had to be shut down just past the E. John Street exit. Medic says paramedics pronounced one person dead on the scene. There’s no word how the accident happened. The DOT says the incident started around 1:40pm and is expected to last until almost 5pm. This is a developing story, check back for updates.
