MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – Students at Trident Academy in Mount Pleasant are giving back this Thanksgiving holiday. A group of students led a collection drive that included food and other items for the Florence Crittenton Home, which provides safe housing, medical care, education, and other support services to pregnant, parents, and young women in foster care. Students spent the morning packing a bus full of items and their collected goods before it was delivered to the home. “This year was a big push for community awareness. We actually created our community care houses this year and one of the initiatives was to try to raise more than we ever had in the past,” said Johnpaul Sticco, assistant head of school at Trident Academy. He said the high school students were able to rally and collect 1,700 donated items at the small private school. “We work really hard here academically, but I think the biggest thing that our kids are really working hard on outside the classroom is being good people,” he said. “I think we have a great group of leaders here.” Trident Academy collects items for Florence Cittenton every year and school leaders said their goal was to collect and distribute more items this year than they have in the past.
