AUSTIN (KXAN)-- Austin Energy is lowering its customer's utility bills for the third month in a row. Customers can expect to see a change in their bills effective Dec. 1, according to a release from Austin Energy.
Austin Energy said in a press release, that it has been working to reduce its customer's energy bills for the past two months. Dec. 1 will be the third month in a row that Austin Energy has reduced the Power Supply Adjustment (PSA) rate in each customer's bill.

Austin's Energy PSA is a dollar-for-dollar charge on a customer bill that helps cover the costs of things like "fuel, electricity purchases, and net charges for selling power to the grid," according to Austin Energy.
Austin Energy said, that for a typical customer, the PSA makes up about half of their total electric bill. The release stated effective Dec. 1, PSA rates will be 15% lower than the rate was earlier this year.
"For a typical customer using 860 kWh per month, this reduction will translate into an estimated $6.53 savings on their monthly electric bill," the release said.
Austin Energy said the idea to implement the recent reductions, "come after making up a $110 million deficit in PSA costs a year ahead of schedule."
Austin Energy General Manager Bob Kahn said the goal is to help Austin continue to have the lowest energy bills in the state.
“Our recent PSA decreases reflect careful planning and an analysis of both historical and forward-looking market conditions. We will continue to monitor costs closely and remain prepared to make additional reductions when appropriate," said Kahn.
Austin Energy said they have seen an improvement in their market, but they are remaining cautious. The statement said things like transmission congestion issues, renewable energy limits, and more still pose risks and could affect future power supply costs.
