Town of Agawam rescinds open burning ban

AGAWAM, Mass. (WWLP) - The Agawam Fire Department has rescinded its open burning ban that was put into place due to dry and hazardous fire conditions.

The temporary ban was initially put into effect on November 4th. Agawam Fire Chief Alan Sirois told 22News that the recent rainfall, combined with seasonal temperatures returning to normal, were the main factors in their decision to reverse the policy.
All previously restricted activities are being allowed again. Residents and businesses are being reminded to still follow state fire safety regulations.
Burning of yard waste is only allowed with a permit between January 15 and May 1, however youare permitted to start and maintain a cooking fire at any time without a permit provided that conditions are safe and that the following requirements are met:
The fire is contained in a non-flammable enclosure
It is located away from combustible materials
It does not create a smoke condition that is a nuisance
It is tended at all times by someone who is 18 years of age or older
Keep in mind that you are also never allowed to burn the following materials:
Leaves
Combustibles from commercial or industrial land clearing
Grass, hay, stumps, pallets or tires
Construction material or demolition debris
Trash
