BOSTON (WPRI) — A new proposal in Massachusetts could eventually ban nicotine and tobacco products for those born after a specific date. Sen. Jason Lewis and Reps. Tommy Vitolo and Kate Lipper-Garabedian plan to file legislation in January permanently blocking those who are not yet old enough to buy tobacco and nicotine products from ever doing so legally in the Bay State. The "Nicotine-Free Generation" bill would replace the state’s current law that prohibits the sale of nicotine or tobacco to anyone under the age of 21. It would not take away the right from anyone who is already legally able to do so. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, tobacco use among middle and high schoolers has reached its lowest point in 25 years.
