VB man sentenced to prison for possession of child sexual abuse material

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - A Virginia Beach man who was previously imprisoned for a terrorist plot at Landstown High School is going back to prison for possession of child sexual abuse material.

On Nov. 26, Philip Charles Bay, 33, was sentenced to serve 100 years in prison with 80 years suspended, leaving a total time served of 20 years, for charges of possession of child pornography - 1st offense and 19 subsequent counts of possession of child pornography.
According to the Commonwealth, in October of 2022, Synchronoss Technologies, Inc., a cloud-based storage site for Verizon Wireless customers, submitted 13 reports to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) of a user uploading child sexual abuse material on their account.

After an investigation, 120,000 images were found from the account connected to Bay's phone number, 33 of which depicted child sex abuse. Bay's driver's license, social security card and a resume were also found within the images.
Bay was arrested on June 22, 2023, after several investigator's conducted surveillance at Bay's house between April and June.
Bay has previous convictions related to plot to bomb Landstown High School in 2009, including possession of a sawed-off shotgun, possession of a firebomb and possession of a weapon of terrorism with intent to terrorize.
