On November 25 just before 8 a.m., detectives say they were attempting to serve an arrest warrant for Kelvin Austin at a home in North Memphis.
When the detectives knocked on the door and explained their reason for being there, Johnny Sanford opened the door and allowed them to come in and look for Austin. The detectives say they saw dirt and dust on Sanford's head and in his hair.
While checking the home for Austin, detectives say the latch to the attic was slightly open and a ladder was nearby as if it had just been moved. Dirt and dust were on the floor beneath the attic door.

That is when the detectives grabbed the ladder to check the attic for Austin. During the search, detectives found a small bulky duffle bag in plain view inside the attic and two handguns.
Sanford and another man in the back room, later identified as Terrious Gillis, were detained at that time.
The first handgun found was a black Glock 27 .40 caliber and was loaded with 14 rounds in its magazine with one in the chamber. The second handgun was a black Glock 22 had a foregrip on the front of the pistol and was loaded with 22 rounds in its magazine with one in the chamber. The second gun showed as stolen, detectives say.
Both weapons were reported with a conversion kit on them, making them fully automatic conversion machine guns.

The detectives say the duffle bag had multiple clear bags inside with what appeared to be narcotics.
After Sanford and Gillis were taken to the Organized Crime Unit, detectives say Sanford had $728.94 worth of cash in his pants pocket.
Terrious Gillis and Johnny Sanford are scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday morning.
