Piedmont Triad to face frigid start to December
Nov 26, 2024
(WGHP) – After a relatively warm November where we saw temperatures reach the 70s seven times and even reach the 80s on Nov. 7, the weather is expected to take a turn for the cold.
Following a Thanksgiving Day cold front, frigid air from Canada will infiltrate and settle in the Midwest, Northeast and the Mid-Atlantic.
A high-pressure system brought from Canada will keep our temperatures frigid the first week of December.
Traveling for Thanksgiving? Here’s how the weather could impact your trip to or from North Carolina’s Piedmont Triad
How cold are we talking? Well, the coldest temperature we’ve seen so far this season was 30 degrees on Nov. 22, and this cold snap is expected to bring us temperatures nearly 10 degrees colder.
The weekend following Thanksgiving, morning temperatures will be in the 20s and afternoon temperatures will remain in the 40s.
It’ll also be breezy throughout the weekend with northwest winds between 10 to 20 mph and gusts of 25 to 30 mph. With the wind factored in, it’ll feel like the low 20s in the morning and the upper 30s in the afternoon.
Winds remain breezy into Monday and temperatures will feel even colder to start next week. Feels-like temperatures Monday morning look to be around 15 degrees with afternoon temperatures feeling like the low 30s. Tuesday also looks similar temperature-wise.
That means for those of you who haven’t turned the heat on yet... well, it's time.
