Amtrak trains damaged after fire erupts at maintenance yard in DC

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- Officials said several Amtrak trains were damaged after a fire broke out at the maintenance yard in Washington, D.C. overnight.
The DC Fire and EMS Department (DCFD) said that shortly after 11 p.m. on Nov. 25, crews responded to an alarm in the 1400 block of W Street NE at the Amtrak maintenance facility.

Once on the scene, firefighters found train cars engulfed in flames. The large fire left thick smoke billowing over the area.

As firefighters worked on the scene, additional units checked for diesel runoff.
Due to the heat from the blaze, DCFD said some train cars were damaged.
Shortly after midnight on Tuesday, officials said the fire was under control and crews were still monitoring hotspots.
There were no reported injuries.
