ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) - Rain is ending this morning and the breeze ramps up. Gusts near 30 mph are expected through the evening. Some minor lake-effect snow gets going east of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario Wednesday, but Monroe County and the city should be quiet with partly cloudy skies. The next system we are watching is an area of low pressure moving from the central United States towards Pennsylvania. This system will have enough cold air on the northern edge to have snow. The question we need to ask is if the northern edge makes it to Rochester. While the American model has kept it south, the European model wants to spit out snow across Western New York, to the tune of about three inches. We need to get the air a bit colder to see any of this come to fruition, but it's possible. For now, we can lean toward a rain/snow mix that struggles to stick on a warm ground. Temperatures take a dive from here. We get colder and colder, with lows falling to the 20s and highs staying in the 30s. A west wind will kick up lake-effect snow east of the lakes Friday, overnight, and into Saturday. There is a chance that the band off Lake Erie extends into Monroe County by Sunday, but that may be our only chance through the holiday weekend to get accumulating snow. As far as next week goes, there are hints that we get some accumulating snow by the middle of the week.
