A Summit County sheriff’s deputy discovered fentanyl in the spare tire area of a vehicle after a traffic stop on eastbound I-80.The vehicle was stopped on Monday, Nov. 18, for failing to signal prior to making a lane change and for not having valid insurance on file. Then the patrolling deputy became suspicious of possible criminal activity during the traffic stop and deployed a K9 unit, according to a report from the Sheriff’s Office.The K9 directed the deputy to one of the car doors. A subsequent search revealed eight “bundles of a black substance that tested positive for fentanyl” under the spare tire compartment, according to the probable cause affidavit.The driver and passenger were arrested and booked into the Summit County Jail.The Sheriff’s Office responded to several other calls between Monday, Nov. 18, and Sunday, Nov. 24, including reports of active warrants and drug violations.Friday, Nov. 22A vehicle was stopped for an active warrant on the Kimball Junction on-ramp. Deputies searched the car and found mushrooms containing psilocybin. The suspect was arrested for outstanding warrants and possession of narcotics.Deputies stopped a vehicle in Kamas for a traffic light violation. The driver had an active warrant, so she was arrested and transported to the Summit County Jail. Tuesday, Nov. 19Deputies contacted a woman over the phone regarding an outstanding warrant. The woman agreed to meet deputies outside of her apartment. They arrested her and took her to the Summit County Jail.Monday, Nov. 18Deputies deployed a K9 unit during a traffic stop on I-80 eastbound. The K9 indicated a possible presence of narcotics, and deputies searched the vehicle. They found approximately 60 grams of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
