HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Investigators with the Henrico County Police Division have identified the man who was hit and killed by a train in Henrico on Sunday, Nov. 24. On Monday, police announced that they had identified the man at the center of the tragedy as 59-year-old Marcell Morse of Richmond. “The holidays are for people trying to get together with loved ones, have a good time and enjoy the holidays, not have tragic news and preparing for a funeral,” said Lt. Shawn Kopelove with Henrico Police. “From our understanding and working with our partners at CSX. The arms were already down for the train. Traffic was at a stop.” Henrico officers arrived at the train tracks just yards away from the intersection of Hungary Road and Oakview Avenue just after 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. The department had received several calls that someone had been hit by a train and traffic was at a standstill. “It just seems like the gentleman disregarded the signs being down and the lights flashing and took it upon himself to try to get across before the train came through,” Kopelove said.   Police said they believe Morse lost his balance while riding across the tracks. “He was with another gentleman. The other gentleman was on foot. He was on a bicycle behind him. The gentleman on foot made it across the railroad tracks," Kopelove said. “And for our pedestrians ... wear reflective clothing at night, use our crosswalks, use the intersections to cross."  Kopelove said the crash is still under investigation. Anyone who may have seen what happened is encouraged to contact Henrico Police.
