Police: 1 dead, 1 injured in Hampton homicide

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A man is dead following a double-shooting on Newport News Avenue in Hampton Monday, Hampton Police said.
Around 5:12 p.m., Hampton Police got a call for a shooting in the 400 block of Newport News Avenue, and when officers arrived, they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds inside two different residences, police said.
The Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue deemed one of the men shot to have life-threatening injuries, and the other non life-threatening. Both were taken to a local hospital, and the man with the life-threatening injuries died there.
Police said a preliminary investigation showed that two neighbors got into a verbal argument, and after exchanging words, both shot at each other.
Hampton Police's Major Crimes Unit is investigating the shooting.
