Colder weather on the way after a warm Thanksgiving
Nov 25, 2024
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A cold front moving through the region overnight will bring cooler air and a slight chance of rain, primarily north of I-10 and I-12.
Temperatures will drop behind the front, making Tuesday a cooler and drier day with highs in the upper 60s. Overnight lows will settle in the upper 50s with patchy fog possible.
Wednesday will bring a quick return to warmer, more humid conditions as the front lifts back north. Afternoon highs will climb into the mid-70s, about 10 degrees above normal for this time of year. Fortunately, the warmup will be short-lived as another, stronger cold front arrives Thursday.
Thanksgiving Day could see scattered showers, with rain chances at around 40 percent through the early afternoon. Highs will peak in the lower 70s before falling as the front moves through. Cooler air will filter in Thursday night, with lows dipping into the upper 40s.
By Friday, sunny skies will dominate, and temperatures will stay significantly cooler, with highs only reaching the upper 50s. This cooler weather will persist into the weekend, and parts of southwestern Mississippi could even see their first freeze Friday night.
