INDIANAPOLIS -- A woman was critically injured during an attempted robbery on the near west side of Indianapolis.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, officers were sent to the 2900 block of West Walnut Street around 7:50 p.m. because dispatchers had received an incomplete 911 call from somebody in the area. When police arrived at the scene, they found a woman inside a silver SUV.
As officers approached the woman, she told them she had been shot. Investigators subsequently determined that the woman had, indeed, sustained injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.
Officers rendered aid to the woman until medics arrived at the scene. At that time, the woman was transported from Walnut Street to a local hospital in critical condition. IMPD has not yet provided any additional updates on her medical status.
Police reported that the woman told them two males tried to rob her before the shooting. She added that the males fled west on Walnut Street after the shots were fired.
As of this article's publication, investigators had not provided physical descriptions of the males or any vehicles they may have used during the incident. Police are trying to obtain footage of the shooting from doorbell cameras and other security equipment set up in the area.
This is a developing story and more information will be added as it becomes available.
