Since 1987, the Maui Invitational has drawn visitors from all over to Lahaina. Due to COVID and the Lahaina wildfires, the tournament was held someplace else for three of the last four years.
While everyone is happy to be back, struggling businesses hope visitors stop by.

"It's a long time, lifetime opportunities to come out and the team's doing great," explained Lucas Smith, Michigan visitor. "Everybody loves it and thinks everybody's putting on their best show."
After the wildfires, the tournament brought a massive boost to an area that needed it, bringing an estimated 6,500 visitors and pumping upwards of $20 million into the island's economy.
"They're filling up the hotels, the vendors, the restaurants. You know I'm sure they'll take home souvenirs. They'll stay longer than the tournament so I think that'll drive the economy very well during this period," said Maui County Mayor Richard Bissen.
While Kaanapali is doing great, some businesses in Lahaina aren't feeling it as much as they'd like. For Mahina, their store in Lahaina Gateway Mall is night and day compared to their Whalers Village location.
"We're seeing a pretty normal amount of traffic up there despite the fact that we endured that fire over a year ago," said Aleta McGrath, Mahina manager.
"I've been talking to the ladies next door in the salon and also the boba girls next door and they've been experiencing the same kind of slower," said Reyrey Tapiedor, Mahina Assistant Manager.
Mayor Bissed acknowledged while the island is making steps towards recovery, this is still just the beginning.
"As many things as we can return to that were normal or that occurred before fires allow people to feel like where they were before and this is one of those things," Bissen added.

The stores at Lahaina Gateway host a craft fair every Sunday and they remind everyone they'll be having Black Friday specials this week and throughout the holiday shopping season.
As for the tournament, organizers couldn't have found a better field. Four of the eight teams are currently ranked in the top ten. The tournament runs through Wednesday.
