GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) — Just days from Thanksgiving, shoppers are flying around grocery store aisles to wrangle their turkey away from the flock of competition. Grocery stores expect prices this year to be at or slightly below previous years. “I think everything is really competitive from what it was last year. Everyone talks about inflation; I think inflation has cooled down a little bit,” said Kevin Rades, human resources manager at Woodman’s in Green Bay. “Our philosophy is to keep everything as low as we can for as long as we can.” Local bars & events embrace Packers Thanksgiving game With $1.29 turkeys and other lower costs for stuffing, rolls, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, and mashed and sweet potatoes, Local 5 found the cost of a basic Thanksgiving meal for 5-6 to be $30.02 at Woodman’s. “One thing at Woodman’s is we pride ourselves on having all different options and everyday low pricing,” Rades said. “We do our best to keep everything as low as we can for as long as we can.” The most important element you can save on this Thanksgiving is your time, according to Rades. “We encourage people: get in, shop early. It’s only going to get busier as these days tick off,” he said. “So the more you do ahead of time, the more relaxed your holiday is going to be.” Early morning and evening hours are typically the best times to avoid long lines. No matter what time of day you go shopping, Woodman’s staff is working with all hands on deck to keep shelves stocked and cash registers ringing. “We have all of our staff ready to go to get you through the checkout as soon as we can,” Rades said. Legacy Hotel partners with HSHS St. Vincent Children’s Hospital to collect gifts for local families Another bonus of shopping early is getting the brands you prefer. “If there’s a name brand you’re looking for, we’re going to have it for you,” Rades said. “And we’re going to have the quantity. Our warehouse is huge. We order early, so if you come in to get your stuff, we’re going to have it for you.”
