Rangers and police find hiker dead on Blue Ridge Parkway

BLOWING ROCK, N.C. – A man died on the Blue Ridge Parkway this weekend. Parkway Law Enforcement rangers and the Blowing Rock Fire Department received a call for help around 5:35pm on Sunday. The call was about a lost hiker at Price Lake Trail, near milepost 296 on the parkway.
Rangers and police met the hiker’s companion on the trail. They say the companion left Freddie Morgan, Jr., 70 years old, of Concord on the trail, “concerned for his welfare and trying to seek assistance.” Authorities say they found Morgan dead off trail shortly after 6:00pm. They say he died because of a medical emergency.
Authorities have not released any further information.
