COALINGA, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Two men who were involved in a police pursuit and allegedly stole over $2,000 worth of items from a Coalinga Rite-Aid were sentenced Monday, with the one suspect being sentenced to two years in prison, the Coalinga Police Department said. Police say the driver of the suspect vehicle, Armani Smith, was sentenced to two years in prison for his involvement in the case. Police say his accomplice, Harold Armstrong, was sentenced to two years of felony probation in Fresno County and is now on felony probation out of Almeda, Fresno and San Francisco. Both suspects were from the Bay Area. DOJ: Benjamin Martin, convicted in Jan. 6 Capitol riot, sentenced again in Fresno According to police, on April 7 officers were dispatched to a Rite-Aid in Coalinga regarding a theft. Officers say they were informed that two men entered the store wearing ski masks, walked behind the front counter and began stealing various alcohol and nicotine products. Police say they allegedly stole over $2,000 worth of property. Police say the suspects then fled the store and got into a Toyota Solara and fled the scene. An officer located the suspects in the area of Jayne Avenue and the I-5, finding the car at a Valero Gas station on Sommerville Lane. Police say the officer saw Armani and Armstrong wearing ski masks and suspected that they were about to commit a robbery or theft at the Valero. The officer activated his emergency lights, got out of his vehicle and confronted Armani and Armstrong at gunpoint. Both Armani and Armstrong ignored the officer's commands to put their hands up and surrender and retreated back into their vehicle. Police say they pulled away from the fuel pump, as it was still pumping gas into their car, damaging the fuel pump. They then got into the I-5 heading southbound. The officer, who was alone at the time, initiated a pursuit with Armani and Armstrong reaching speeds of more than 120 miles per hour. Police say they were weaving in and out of traffic and ran other vehicles off the roadway and onto the shoulder. The officer pursued them for approximately eight miles until the suspect lost vehicle control and rolled over several times, coming to a rest in the northbound median of the I-5. Police say the suspects and a woman, Jordan Heaven Harris (who was in the car), were thrown from the vehicle. The three people were taken into custody and stolen property from the Rite-Aid was recovered from the vehicle and the scene. Officers were later informed that the suspects and the vehicle were involved in another theft at a Rite-Aid in the City of Lemoore, where approximately $1,000 worth of goods were stolen there. At the time of the alleged theft, Smith, Armani and Harris were charged with multiple felony theft charges including suspicion of attempted robbery and felony evading.
