SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A San Francisco jury convicted a man of sexually assaulting two women after strangling them. Sergio Barillas Perez, 32, was convicted of rape by force, assault, false imprisonment, attempted rape, and criminal threats. The convictions stem from two separate incidents. According prosecutors, on December 11, 2021, Barillas Perez lured a woman into his garage in the Excelsior District where he strangled and raped her. On February 2, 2022, after Barillas Perez followed a woman out of a bar in the Inner Sunset, he strangled her to unconsciousness and attempted to rape her, prosecutors said. "I would like to thank the jury for their service on this trial and the survivors for their courageand resilience," said District Attorney Brooke Jenkins. "Every day we walk into courtrooms atthe Hall of Justice to ensure that there is justice for victims of sexual violence and brutality." San Francisco watchdog Ricci Wynne arrested, suspected of pimping The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Katherine Wells. "I stand in awe of the two survivors who courageously shared their terrifying and painfulstories," Wells said. "They have not only delivered justice to this predatory sexual offender, but helped ensure the safety of other women in our community. I thank the jury for their careful consideration of the evidence and for validating the survivors’ experiences." Barillas Perez remains in custody and he is scheduled to be sentenced on January 16.
