WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeff Easter provided an update Monday on the weekend shooting that occurred at several locations and ultimately involved the Wichita Police Department. The sheriff’s office is investigating the shooting as it involved Wichita police officers. Officer-involved shooting on Oct. 22, 2024 (KSN Photo) The incidents began Friday night when the Wichita Police Department responded to a shooting near 13th Street and Broadway in the 1400 block of N. Otis Ave. at 8:52 p.m. Sheriff Easter said two individuals were riding bikes northbound on Park Place when they heard a “flurry of shots” coming from the south of them. They then backtracked on 14th Street, then down Otis Avenue, where they encountered a man who pistol-whipped one of the bike riders and pointed his gun at another and stole his bike. At 8:56 p.m., the suspect, a 33-year-old man, shot at a home in the 1400 block of N. Otis Ave. as he was walking away with the bike. A man in that home was narrowly missed, but his dog was shot. While police were investigating that shooting, they heard gunshots coming from the direction of Broadway. At 9:16 p.m., they were flagged down by a man who told police that someone had approached him on a bicycle and tried to carjack him. The driver drove off and was shot at by the man on the bicycle. One bullet struck the driver’s headrest. At 9:20 p.m., police heard more shots being fired near 11th Street and Broadway, where they determined that the suspect had shot at another individual who ran off. After that, the man went across the street to a convenience store, where he confronted a woman and then fired shots at her. Officers heard those gunshots and drove to the location, where they noticed the suspect with the stolen bicycle. At 9:26 p.m., officers got out of their vehicle and told the man to get on the ground several times. He then reached into his pocket and pulled out a handgun. While police were still telling him to drop the gun and get on the ground, he pointed the gun at officers. Man found shot in rolled vehicle in downtown Wichita Police then shot the man, striking him several times. The man was then taken to the hospital by EMS with critical but non-life-threatening injuries. While investigating the first incident, the bicyclists told officers they initially heard gunshots from the area of Prospect Park at 13th Street and Main Street. Police searched that area and found a man who had been shot to death. That man has been identified as Myron Tucker. Investigators believe he was shot around 8:49 p.m. before the robbery. Sheriff Easter said the suspect was released from the hospital Sunday and booked into Sedgwick County Jail on multiple charges, including the following: First-degree murder Attempted first-degree murder and attempted aggravated robbery Aggravated robbery and aggravated battery Aggravated assault and criminal discharge of a firearm Two counts of aggravated assault on law enforcement officers Felon in possession of a firearm (due to his prior felony conviction) The suspect's bond is set at $5 million. The District Attorney will review the charges and will release more information on official charges after review.
