WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Consistent data over the years helps the ISO New England predict the energy demand for Thanksgiving. "It seems to be the only day of the year where people cook dinner before noon," shared Mike Knowland, Forecast & Scheduling Manager, ISO New England. The ISO predicts the energy peak will hit at noon this Thanksgiving. On an average day, peak hours hit in the early evening when people cook dinner or do chores. Though cooking is a holiday priority, it throws a twist on the power grid. "We usually start around 10-11 am," shared Rosemary Garcia. "I think it's going to start around noon time," shared William Glenn. With a storm expected to hit Thursday across New England, where you get your energy from could shift. "On a day where it's rainy, rain obviously comes with cloudy skies, which block out the sun and prevent the solar power where it's needed," shared Mike Knowland, Forecast & Scheduling Manager, ISO New England. The ISO shared with 22News that there is no need to worry as they check the forecast regularly to see where generation is needed throughout the day. The forecast plays a part in the Thanksgiving tradition. "People are cooking with sunshine more than they realize," shared Mike Knowland, Forecast & Scheduling Manager, ISO New England. The energy demand starts to dip after dinner and as people head to the couch for football and a nap. If you would like to follow the grid in real time, visit here.
