Leilani Simon motions for new trial

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Leilani Simon's attorneys filed a motion for a new trial Sunday after Simon was sentenced to life in prison Thursday.
On Oct. 25, Simon was found guilty on all counts against her by a jury for the murder of her child, Quinton Simon. Simon's defense attorneys said that the guilty verdict handed down didn't have the evidence to support it, and that the verdict is contrary to the evidence.
"A jury of 12 people said that's enough for them today," Simon's Defense Attorney Martin Hilliard said on Friday. "Does that mean it's gonna be enough next week, next month, next year when it goes to the Supreme Court? We'll see, and that's what the appellate process is for."
The motion filed by Hilliard also requests that they be removed from new trial and for Simon to have an attorney who specializes in appeals. In the motion, it said that Simon "wishes to raise a claim of ineffective assistance of counsel."
