The oldest pieces of the series date back to 1958, when Los Angeles sculptor Rudolph Vargas, who died in 1986, created them. The installation grew to include the 12 scenes by 1976, and restoration efforts are ongoing, according to Greater Ontario California, a tourism organization that promotes the region.
Visitors can view the installation as they stroll Euclid, and learn more about the scenes on a self-guided tour available at Christmas-on-euclid.com. Promoters say a sculptured camel, created in the spirit of the original 1950s-era statues, will be added to the display this year.
