PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Providence police are searching for the suspect in a deadly North End shooting, marking the city's 11th homicide this year.
The victim, identified as 49-year-old Keith Singleton, was shot and killed Sunday night on Monticello Street, according to police.
"My heart goes out to the family, again, just before Thanksgiving, to have to go through such a difficult situation of mourning a loved one," Providence Police Chief Oscar Perez said.
Detectives returned to the scene Monday morning to continue their investigation.
Mayor Brett Smiley said that although the shooting appeared to be an isolated incident, any act of violence is unacceptable.
"We don't believe that this was anything other than an isolated incident, and I don't believe that the North End for any reason is being targeted or somehow less safe than any other neighborhood right now," Smiley said.

Police revealed that Singleton had been shot in the same area last year during an officer-involved shooting that began as a pursuit spanning Johnston, North Providence and Providence.
Former state Rep. Marcia Ranglin-Vassell emphasized the need for resources to address those affected by violence.
"To add support for intergenerational trauma, community trauma and violence, and to really make sure that we have more support for students, teachers and families," she said.
The Ward 4 city councilor organized an emergency community meeting for Tuesday to address "rising violent crime" in the North End.
